You are very diverse. I like all your work but the beach scenes that you do are my favorite. This one brings back a very fond memory. Thanks.

Karyn Robinson replied:

Thank you, Tony. They are the most challenging for me, and the most rewarding.

Artist's Description

Karyn Robinson, Gilbert, Arizona.

It's difficult for a child to ignore the opportunity to explore the beach when it's so nearby. These rocks are located right next to the ferry landing on Coronado Island and these playmates would rather climb and hunt for crabs than sit and wait for the ferry to take them to downtown San Diego. And who can blame them?

I remember my own adventures on the beach. So much to explore...the shells that washed up, the crabs that scurried along, the bird treks in the sand. There were castles to be built (and subsequently destroyed), and siblings to bury.

These explorers only have a few minutes to look around, but they are putting it to good use.

This scene could be played out on a myriad of beaches from Maine to Florida, from Louisiana to Texas, from California to Washington state. Wherever there are rocks and sand, there will be children.

Karyn Robinson

Robinson grew up in the midwest and has lived in Arizona with her husband Jeff for more than 25 years. "When we moved to the southwest I was immediately taken with the desert's exotic beauty. Where some see only rocks and dirt, I see majesty. I love the sculptural shapes of the cacti and the way light and shadow plays on their forms." In addition to her contemporary take on southwestern art, Robinson enjoys painting abstracts, unusual objects (check out her robot painting, A Boy and His Dog) and capturing people at play. "Sometimes I feel that there is not enough time in the day to paint everything I want to paint. I'm so captivated by this wonderful, beautiful world. If I can just continue to paint and share my work with...
